Pastels
The Pastel series (2018- ongoing) started as sketches for very large abstract oil paintings.
Initially to test color and composition, the immediacy of the pastel palette and the magnificent and surprising textures of the different pigments turned these small studio pieces in works of their own.
Several parallel topics appear in the different pieces. Always an open projection surface, they are a balancing act between geometric and organic shapes, artificial and earthy color combinations: those of pop culture, of icones and stereotypes, and those of our bodies and of nature.
As they are created in parallel to my folding works, themselves underlyingly influenced by fashion patterns, most if not all, could be seeds for three-dimensional works.
Projected interpretations and associations raise, families of works emerge in a fluent manner while contemplating the different works together. Standing alone, each piece is a carefully chiseled and impactful space.
